Bring Your Kids and Pets Out to Play

Nothing can arguably bring you so much joy, fulfillment, satisfaction, and a sense of purpose than a litter of pets and a group of kids. In fact, the best way of taking a break from the daily humdrum of our busy, arduous, and lackluster days is by spending a day with children and animals. This is one of the reasons Collen Paige – a celebrity, family, lifestyle and pet expert – pushed for the commemoration of Pets and Kids Day every year on April 26th. And this year is no exception. The former EMT and medic also recognized the importance and value of the special bond that kids typically develop with their pets and chose to set aside a day to pay homage to this unique relationship. This is also the day that adults and parents are encouraged to help spread awareness of the plight that sheltered, unadopted pets face every year that they remain unclaimed.

kids pets dayAccording to the pet lover, who is also the founder of numerous animal welfare organizations, the Pets and Kids Day is the ideal time of the year to teach our children how to show unconditional compassion. It is also the day to re-evaluate the kind of relationship that our children at home have developed with our pets. Children with learning difficulties, for instance, can improve their reading and understanding prowess by regularly reading to pets. Unlike when reading to other people, shy children are not afraid to make mistakes, mispronounce words and strive to do better altogether when conversing with pets.

A recent study also shows that kids whokids pets day are entrusted with the responsibility of taking care of pets early in life turn out to be more caring, responsible and all-around adults. In fact, they tend to be more extremely compassionate, nurturing, selfless and dedicated. And April 26th is the best day of the year to appreciate the role our pets play in our kid’s upbringing.

  • National Pet Day is Fast-approaching

    National Pet Day is Fast-approaching

Typically commemorated every year on April 11th, the National Pet Day was started ten years ago in 2007 by family lifestyle and celebrity pet expert, Colleen Paige. Colleen is also the creator of Dress Up Your Pet day, National Cat day and National Kids day. He started this day as a way to pay homage and commemorate the importance of pet adoption in our society. On this day, pet parents are encouraged to spare some time to celebrate their finned, furry, or fine-feathered companions and the value they bring to their lives.

You might be wondering what’s the best way of appreciating the presence of your pet in an otherwise busy lifestyle. Well, here are some suggestions.

    1. Spend some quality time with them.

It is actually surprising and ironical that most of us rarely make some quality time to spend with our four-pawed companions. But on 11th of April this year, set apart a few hours to walk or feed, talk or sit with your pet. You will be surprised by how much they will enjoy and savor those few precious hours.

    2. Spoil them with a rare treat.
When was the last time you bought your fur baby a present to mark their birthday or adoption? It might be a simple toy or a few hours of clawdicure; whichever way you choose to do it, they will feel appreciated and loved.

    3. Donate to a non-profit animal welfare organization on behalf of your kitty companion.

In honor and celebration of that relentless devotion that your furry friend has shown you, take this day to give away a few hundred dollars to the nearest adoption home or a non-profit welfare group of your choice. Remember that these are same organizations that help keep our streets and neighborhoods safe by taking in stray dogs or homeless kittens that could be potential carriers of deadly zoonotic diseases if not immunized.

  • Commemorating National Puppy Day – March 23, 2017

Commemorating National Puppy Day – March 23, 2017

‘Every dog has its day,’ goes the famous adage.

In line with this, ten days after the commemoration of their elder brothers’ National K9 Veterans Day on March 13, our tail wagging and sniffing chums will have their dedicated day. All dog lovers and pet owners mark your calendars on the 23rd day of March this year. It is the National puppy day.

History of the National Puppy’s Day

Established ten years ago on March 23, 2006, by Colleen Paige – a celebrity home lifestyle expert and pet lover – the day is annually dedicated to your cute furry friends with two main objectives. First, to recognize and cherish the joy and warmth that baby pups add to our lives. Second, to raise awareness of the essence of pet adoption and significant issues surrounding a puppy’s health.

What you Should be doing on National Puppy’s Day

If you have recently acquired a puppy, then this is the best time to schedule a first comprehensive checkup. However, it is important to bear in mind that puppies should be first vaccinated at the age of 6 weeks. An early visit to your vet will ensure a flourishing future health of your growing barking buddy.

The National Puppy Day this year is also the opportune time to purchase a name tag or make sure that your pup’s current name tag is in good condition and up to date should they get lost in the neighborhood. Puppies naturally love to explore their immediate environment. It shouldn’t surprise you that they have already lost it.

Lastly, 23rd March is the day you puppy proof your home by storing away hazardous household chemicals such as cleaning agents and medicine. You may also want to keep your curious tail-wagging friend away from from the danger of consuming ‘people’s food’ that can be potentially toxic to dogs. This includes foodstuff such as avocados, onions, chocolate and most kitchen ingredients.
