Ask any dog/pet lover, and they gladly confirm to you that there’s nothing as cute and friendly-looking as the wrinkly and furry bulldog. As much as bulldogs are sturdy and ferocious, they also have an amazingly warm and beautiful personality. And that’s just one of the many reasons that National Pets Association set aside 21st April 2017 to commemorate the ‘Bulldogs are Beautiful Day.’ If you have a bulldogĀ or know of a close friend or family that has one, this is the most opportune time of the year to extend some love and concern to our pawed companions.
In this past, pet owners have marked this day by treating their beloved pets to a special treat/adventure such as a long walk in the park, scrumptious dog snacks or a pre-scheduled annual visit to the local vet. Some – the more flamboyant – often go a step further and dress up their treasured pets in cute add-ons and clothes in gratitude and appreciation for the warmth and company that their playful bull terriers add to their lives.
On the other end of the spectrum, individuals who have always aspired to own a bulldog can make use of this day to adopt one from the nearest local dog home. Speaking of which, remember that there are several breeds of bulldogs commonly available; Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bull Mastiff, American Dog Terrier and the Olde British Bulldogge.
It is also a good time to set aside some hours to learn more about bulldogs. For instance, contrary to the common opinion, a bulldog is not primarily an outdoor dog. Even in slightly warm weather, bulldogs can easily suffer from overheating if left outdoors for several hours. Besides, bulldogs have very sensitive skin that gets irritated easily if they are always outdoors.
Finally, you can also choose to pay homage to this day by taking your wrinkly companion for a Brucellosis test. And while at it, buy them a treadmill so that they don’t necessarily have to go outdoors to stay fit.
